Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Awards $3 Million Challenge Grant
May 6, 2011
The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has awarded a $3 million Challenge Grant to the National Flight Academy. Mr. Stephen M. Hilton, President and CEO of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, presented the award during the Christening Ceremony of NFA’s virtual aircraft carrier, Ambition.
“My grandfather transformed his hotel fortune into the humanitarian foundation that bears his name. In his will, he charged us to alleviate human suffering among the world’s most vulnerable populations, especially children,” said Mr. Hilton.
“My father succeeded him in 1966 as company president, and greatly increased the value of Hilton stock during his career as CEO. He also worked diligently to follow Conrad’s guidance regarding the work of the Foundation, particularly as it impacts young people. In 2007, Barron announced that he would follow his father’s example, and leave 97 percent of his wealth to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
On behalf of our Chairman Barron Hilton, and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, we have made a challenge grant of $3 million dollars. We believe in the Academy, and the positive impact it will have on young people. You are creating a powerful incentive for learning STEM subjects, and I look forward to joining you again at the grand opening of the National Flight Academy…”
Accepting the award on behalf of NFA was Vice Admiral Gerald Hoewing, USN (Ret), President and CEO of NFA.
"Our mission is to inspire and educate future generations of innovative thinkers through a positive exposure to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We will do that by immersing participants in a creative learning adventure utilizing technology and flight simulation," said Vice Admiral Gerald Hoewing. "This investment from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation demonstrates a commitment to inspiring our nation’s youth through the use of world-class technology and the wonder of flight.”
