The Facility

Located adjacent to the National Naval Aviation Museum, the National Flight Academy is a 102,000 sq. ft. four-story structure designed to be fully and intensively immersive. The NFA’s adventure begins with our landlocked, simulated training aircraft carrier, Ambition (CVT-11). Each deck of Ambition is designed scenically and theatrically to simulate a modern aircraft carrier. The first deck houses the galley, mess deck, administrative spaces and the main simulator bays. The second deck is dedicated to academic spaces and contains all of the Simulation and Immersion Center spaces. The third and fourth decks house berthing, Ambition Experimental Pilot (AXP) lounges and activity rooms. The facility is designed in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Security Personnel monitor the cameras through-out the overnight hours as well as provide foot patrol on a regular basis. For more information the security company used for overnight hours, please see the following link: Securitas Security Services.

Ambition  Sea Trials

In naval tradition, a sea trial is the testing phase of a watercraft, usually the last phase in construction. The students who participated in the pilot program were part of the Teen Shadow Board, the student advisory board who have worked with the National Flight Academy staff through the major development phases of the program. The students were the first class to experience the Aviation In Residence (AIR) program in its full capacity, which included immersive scenarios and use of state-of-the-art simulators.
